Reverse Pulse Jet Baghouse: Tips and Tricks

In reverse pulse-jet baghouses, individual bags are supported by a metal cage (filter cage), which is fastened onto a cell plate at the top of the baghouse. Dirty gas enters from the bottom of the baghouse and flows from outside to inside the bags. The metal cage prevents collapse of the bag.

Bags are cleaned by a short burst of compressed air injected through a common manifold over a row of bags. The compressed air is accelerated by a venturi nozzle mounted at the reverse-jet baghouse top of the bag. Since the duration of the compressed-air burst is short (about 0.1 seconds), it acts as a rapidly moving air bubble, travelling through the entire length of the bag and causing the bag surfaces to flex. This flexing of the bags breaks the dust cake, and the dislodged dust fails into a storage hopper below.

Reverse pulse-jet dust collectors can be operated continuously and cleaned without interruption of flow because the burst of compressed air is very small compared with the total volume of dusty air through the collector. On account of this continuous cleaning feature, reverse-jet dust collectors are usually not compartmentalized.

The short cleaning cycle of reverse-jet collectors reduces recirculation and redeposit of dust. These collectors provide more complete cleaning and reconditioning of bags than shaker or reverse-air cleaning methods. Also, the continuous cleaning feature allows them to operate at higher air-to cloth ratios, so the space requirements are lower.

A digital sequential timer turns on the solenoid valve at set intervals to inject air into the blow pipe and clean the filters.

Wire Rod Mills: Roles and Results

The objective of a wire rod mill is to reheat and roll steel billets into wire rods. The production of wire rods in wire rod mills is subject to constant change. The growing demands on the quality of the wire rods as well as on the flexibility and cost effectiveness of the wire rod mills has necessitated the development of new and innovative technologies and processes.
Block Mills

𝐂𝐀𝐒𝐄 𝐰𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐝 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 are high speed mills capable of rolling of smaller dimensions at high production rates, while at the same time keeping investments and operating costs at the reasonable levels. These mills are capable of rolling at speeds ranging from 50 meters per second to 100 meters per second. Typical product sizes are within the 5.0mm to 20mm range. The range of materials comprises low to high carbon steels, cold heading steels, wire drawing steels, alloy steels, spring steels, ball bearing steels, electrode quality steels, reinforcement bars and tool steels. Modern wire rod mills are expected to meet the following requirements:
1) mill availability coupled with high productivity and high yields.
2) meeting the need of low maintenance.
3) meeting the need of lower energy consumption.
4) close dimensional tolerances of wire rods in the range of +/- 0.10mm and ovality in the range of around 0.2mm.
5) low scale loss in wire rods of around 0.5% to 0.6%.
6) negative tolerances (in sectional Weight).
7) no variation in dimensions throughout the length of the rod.
8) uniform physical properties.
9) uniform weight with nominal variation between middle and back end.

Industrial Pollution Study: Shocking Result 2019

While addressing the industrial pollution, TERI in its emission inventories estimated that industries contribute 51% to PM 10, 35% to SO2 and 18% to NOx emission loads in India. Latest study for Delhi conducted by TERI shows that industries contribute to 30% in PM2.5 concentrations during winters, highlighting the need to regulate emissions from this sector. Some of the issues around industrial pollution relate to siting of industries, use of solids fuels with high ash and sulphur content, inefficient technologies of combustion, limited use of efficient tail pipe control devices, and inadequate vigilance and enforcement.

To address this issue, the following steps can be implemented –
1) Developing regulatory frameworks for penetrating gaseous fuels in the industrial clusters:
2) Strengthening the capacities (manpower, technical, and financial) of pollution control boards for improved enforcement;
3) Introducing and strengthening emission norms for PM2.5, NOx and SO2
